Obstetric care

This includes ante-natal care (the care given at pregnancy period), management of child birth and post-natal care (care after delivery). Ante-natal period comprises of three trimesters, first second and third trimesters. Each trimester have their own unique characteristics and so the medical approach should also differ from each other. We prepare the mother for delivery of the baby both physically and mentally. A good psychological status and confidents are required for safe confinement. A productive counseling allies the anxiety of the mother. Apart from the monitoring and correction of physiological changes of mother, anticipation and management of inter-current diseases are imperative. Tracking of wellbeing and growth of baby inside the womb is the integral part of ante-natal care. Special tests and scanning may be advised during ante-natal period. While X rays and CT scan are harmful during pregnancy, ultrasonography is absolutely safe and so we advocate it. We are concerned with the health of your baby more than any one else.

Child Birth - The birth of child is a complicated process, involving sliding, rotation and decent of the presenting part. It needs utter vigilance while conducting labour. Giving psychological support is equally important. Induction of labour using pharmacological preparations might be required. Depending on the situation various techniques of assisting deliveries are also practiced. This includes vacuum-assisted deliveries and forceps deliveries.

In special situations, when all the modalities of assisted deliveries fail or when the life of baby or mother are at risk, Caesarian Deliveries might be the only choice. At Azalea Gynocare, ratio of caesarian deliveries is very low. We stick to the ethics and try hard to avoid operation as far as possible.

Obstetric ultrasonography - Obstetric ultrasosnography is the use of ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, in which sound waves are used to create real-time visual images of the developing embryo or fetus in its mother's uterus (womb). The procedure is a standard part of ante-natal care, as it can provide a variety of information about the health of the mother, the timing and progress of the pregnancy, and the health and development of the embryo or fetus. Ultrasound is safe during pregnancy.

When are scans usually carried out during pregnancy?

  • During your first trimester, you may have an early scan at about six weeks or seven weeks. This is to confirm the pregnancy, whether it is intra uterine or extra uterine pregnancy and to asses the period of gestation. This is also useful to rule out the possibilities of vesicular mole or blighted ovum.
  • You can have a nuchal translucency (NT) scan between 11 weeks and 13 weeks. In most cases, this will be combined with a blood test for increased accuracy. Nuchal translucency scan helps to work out the risk of your baby having a chromosomal abnormality.
  • In your second trimester you'll be offered an anomaly scan between 20 weeks and 22 weeks. Anomaly scan is done to rule out any abnormal growth of the baby and to detect position of the placenta.
  • In your third trimester, we recommend you to undergo a term scan between 32 weeks and 36 weeks. This is to check the position and presenting part and growth of the baby. The adequacy of amniotic fluid and position of placenta also shall be checked.

Sometimes ultrasounds are performed more often during pregnancy. This might happen if you are having twins or triplets or you have a complication in your pregnancy.

Gynaecologic ultrasonography - If you’ve pelvic pain, unexplained bleeding, heavy periods, period pains, or bleeding after the menopause, you may need a gynaecology scan to check the health of your ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus. An ultrasound scan will give a clear view of your reproductive organs and will help determine a possible cause of the problem.

Follicular Scan - Follicular Monitoring is done in Azalea, which is essential in the treatment of infertility. It is a tracking ultrasound monitoring examination to measure the size of active follicles in the ovaries that can contain an egg. The scan is useful to accurately predict when ovulation might be expected and help to maximize the chances of the egg being fertilized.
